It Is Okay Not To Know

A buddy asked me
what I thought
about the situation
in Russia.

I told him
I didn’t know enough
to talk about Russia.

He replied
that I was likely
the only person
on the planet
who would admit
to that.

I hope I’m not.
Because MOST of us
don’t know enough
to talk about Russia.
Or other topics.

And acknowledging that,
staying out of the conversation
and simply observing,
creates better discussions
and better decisions.

It also increases the odds
others will listen to us
when we DO know about the topic.

Admit to not knowing.
That is a powerful stance
and it will make the world
a better place.

Just Because It Isn’t On The News…

A buddy in another country
told me
she was so relieved
the fires in my country
were now out.

The fires aren’t
out.
There are more fires
today
than there were
last week.

The news has
merely stopped
covering the fires
because they and viewers
are bored of that coverage.

Don’t make business decisions
based on the news coverage.

Do your own research.

Death Threats Happen In Every Field

Recently,
a high profile meteorologist resigned,
sharing that he had PTSD
from death threats
due to him covering climate change.

He is shifting
to a science role,
thinking he won’t get
death threats in that field.

That might be true
for HIM.
He is male and white.

But for anyone
who is not male and white,
the death threats
will likely continue
in that science role.

I’m female.
I have always received
death threats.

I received them
while I was a student
at a university.
I received them
while I was in business.
I receive them
now
as I write romance novels.

I will always receive death threats
because
I’m a female
and I have an internet presence.

Shifting fields
likely won’t stop
death threats.

Learn how to deal
with them.
Take them seriously.
And keep yourself safe.

Those Books On Your Shelves

I recently cleared
a shelf of business books
in my home office
and
donated them
(5 every couple of days)
to the
Little Free Library
in my neighborhood.

Business books
DO have a shelf life
and I hadn’t looked at them
in two years.

Donating them
freed storage space
and they might help
another business person.

If you have business books
you likely won’t ever
look at again,
consider
donating them.

Give them
to someone
who might use them
and
make their world
a better place.

Fight The Lazies

There was
a significant continuity error
in an upcoming release.

I was lazy,
so f*cking lazy
to correct it.

It meant crafting a fix,
reformatting the files
and reloading them to booksellers.
And maybe
no one would notice it?

But my readers
WOULD likely notice it.
And it might
throw them out of the story.
That would decrease
their enjoyment
and the odds
they’ll pre-order
the next story.

So I pushed aside
my laziness
and made the changes.

And I feel
RELIEVED
they have been made.

Fight the lazies.
Do what
you KNOW
should be done.

Awareness Of The Rest Of The World

We’re busy.
We have businesses to build
and that takes
a lot of time.

But it is important
to carve out
a couple minutes
in our days
and scan over
what is happening
in the rest of the world.

Because those happenings
will likely impact our businesses.
Maybe not today or tomorrow
but eventually.

The things that happen
in the UK,
for example,
eventually happen
in my corner of the world.

I track those UK happenings
and prepare for them
to arrive in my area
and that has been
a HUGE key to my successes.

Be aware of
what is happening
in the rest of the world.

Not Everything Has To Earn Money

If you’re new to Client k
and you’re trying to figure out
how I derive an income
from this blog,
there’s an easy answer.

I don’t.

There is no advertising
on this site,
no affiliate links
or anything like that.

I don’t get paid
to pump products.

I’m not hired
as an ‘expert’
due to posting here
because I post anonymously.

(I also don’t need
Client k
to position myself as an expert.
My years of experience
and extensive research
accomplishes that.)

I post here
to give back,
to share my insights
and my research
(it has to go
SOMEWHERE),
and often
to vent.

Not everything
has to be monetarized.
Money isn’t the only
return on investments.

Can You Survive EVERY Scenario?

Most business builders
are skilled at looking
at probabilities.

But we tend to
focus on the scenario
with the highest probability
of happening.

If there’s a 70% chance
our new product will succeed,
for example,
we prepare only
for that scenario
and we launch the product
assuming it WILL succeed.

But what if the 30% probability scenario
becomes reality?
What if our product fails?
What if our business
can’t survive that failure?
Should we still launch
that product?
Is the upside
worth that risk?

These are questions
we should be asking.

Consider ALL scenarios
when making a decision.

Mitigate your risks
if the worst case scenarios
become reality.

And ensure the upsides
of taking action
are worth the possible downsides.

Live to business build
another day.

The Cost Of Complete Certainty

Scientists have been warning
about increases in temperatures
due to climate change
and the impacts
that will have
on power grids
for years.

Some leaders
don’t ‘believe’ in climate change.
They claim to be 100% certain
it doesn’t exist.

So those leaders didn’t upgrade or modify
their power grids.
The grids, as predicted,
are going down
and people are dying.

THAT is the cost
of 100% certainty
– there’s a lack of preparation
if any other scenario happens.

If the leaders had been
90% certain
climate change
didn’t exist, for example,
they might have mitigated
the risk of the 10% scenario
happening
and worked on the power grids.

There is a cost
to complete certainty
or,
in this case,
complete denial.

If you’re 100% certain
about something,
consider the costs
of being wrong.

If You’re Awake…

I’ve been traveling lately
and my internal timetable
is all f*cked up.

I’ll wake up at 2am
and fall asleep at noon.

At first,
I would fight this.
I’d stay in bed
and hope to fall asleep again.

Then I realized
that was foolish.

I run my own businesses
and many of my tasks
don’t require partners.

I can work
whenever I want.

So when I’m awake,
I work.
When I feel tired,
I sleep.

We are our own bosses.
We can work
on OUR schedules.
