Brain Not Required Work

Last night,
I hit the wall
brain-wise.

My brain was
empty.
Nothing was happening
up there.

But I still had energy
and I had time.

So I completed
tasks
that didn’t require any thought.

I shredded confidential
documents.

I shared social media posts
writing buddies
had crafted
to help them sell books.

I organized
the tax file.

I put some mailing
together.

Those tasks had to be completed
but I had saved them
for times like last night,
times when my brain
wasn’t working properly.

Save some
no-thought-required tasks
for when you are past
the point of thinking.

The Things We Can’t Change

According to weather forecasts,
it is going to rain
in my area
every day
for the next two weeks.

That is…disappointing.
I had things to do outside

But I can’t change the weather.
That’s not my area of expertise
or my business model.

I have to accept it will rain.
And adjust for it.

I might erect tents
so I can work outside.

Or delay that work.

Or try to bring it
inside.

Or make another tweak
to my plans.

In your business,
there are things
you can’t change also.

Accept that
and work with or around them.

Following Up Is Necessary

A loved one
was told he would receive
a refund on a purchase.

The refund never came.
It took him three additional contacts
to receive the refund.

This is happening
for a lot of people
with a lot of companies
in a lot of instances.

It happens with orders.
It happens with refunds.
It happens with project management.

It could be a result of COVID.
It could be a result of
corporate policies.
It could be a result
of people simply not caring anymore.

Whatever is causing this,
it is happening.

Following up
is absolutely necessary now
if you want anything done.

Factor that into your timelines.

What Motivates You?

When my surroundings
become a little too cluttered,
I watch an episode of Hoarders.

That motivates me
to get rid of items
I no longer need
or want.

Before working on
my next story,
I often reread a story
I absolutely love.

That motivates
me to write.

Much of success in life
is figuring out
how our unique brains work
and
what motivates us.

Pay attention
to how you feel
and what you feel
driven to accomplish
after doing or watching or reading
certain things.

Use these motivators
to get sh*t done.
