When a salesperson loved one
is preparing to give a presentation
to people outside of his industry,
he practices that presentation
with me,
someone outside his industry.
During the first presentation,
there are usually acronyms and words
I don’t understand.
The language is that of the industry.
It isn’t one I’m familiar with.
He’ll change those words
to ones I AM familiar with.
This ensures
I receive the message
he is trying to share.
Astronaut
Chris Hadfield,
when speaking with
Carmine Gallo,
shares
“I work really hard
to choose
words, images, and stories
that are within
their realm of understanding.
Something they’ll get immediately
and remember it afterward.”
Use words your audience
will understand.
