Acknowledging Your Behind The Scenes Team Members

Every week or so,
a post floats around
the Romance Novel Business
section of Facebook,
talking about
how writers should publicly acknowledge
their cover artists, editors
and other behind the scenes
team members.

The assumption is…
they all WANT to be acknowledged
and they are proud
to be associated with your book (product).

That’s a huge and extremely arrogant
assumption.

I write edgy stories.
Some of those stories,
my cover artist prefers
not to be publicly associated with.
The possible fall out isn’t worth
the exposure.

My editor is super secret
about her identity.
She prefers not to have
even her clearly made up pen name
posted in permanent places
(like book listings, etc).

And some team members
like working behind the scenes
because they don’t like the spotlight.

ASK your behind the scenes team members
before you acknowledge them publicly.
It’s a ‘reward’
not everyone wants.
