This isn’t a secret.
Everyone in the publishing industry
knows this.
Romance Novel writers
were paid small advances
because they were women
and the publishers could
pay them that.
Anyone who pushed back
was told
that was just the way it was,
the way it had always been.
Women couldn’t win
in the established system.
So when an alternative
became feasible
(i.e. Indie publishing
became accessible
to all writers),
women left
the established system.
The Romance Novel Industry
is now dominated
by Indie published writers.
Being unable to win
in the established system
is one of the many reasons
people build their own businesses.
I will never again enter
the established system
unless it works FOR me,
not against me.
