Some writers
have been posting on social media,
asking what is and what isn’t
offensive
regarding Cinco de Mayo.
My personal policy is…
If I have to ask this question,
I don’t know enough
about the celebration/event
to market around it.
I’ll, instead, watch, observe,
do my research,
note which companies
market around the event
in the ‘right way’
and which companies
bungle it completely.
I’ll participate in the event
and I’ll listen
to the other people around me.
THEN,
once I’m comfortable
and I know
I have a solid understanding
of the event,
I’ll market around it.
Do your research
before marketing around an event.
It is better to delay
the marketing for a year
than f*ck it up.
