Internet Coupons Are Forever

A loved one is careful with his money
so before he goes anywhere,
he searches the internet for a coupon.

Once in a while,
his coupons get rejected.

Sometimes (rarely) these coupons are outright fraudulent
but more often,
these coupons have been discontinued
by the restaurant or store or…

They may be discontinued
but they never EVER get erased.
The internet is forever.
(And as expiry dates are easily changed,
that is NOT your solution.)

So be careful of what coupons you issue.

Ask yourself
“Can I support this coupon forever?”
If you can’t,
I suggest not issuing the coupon.

If you DO issue the coupon,
think
“What will I do for customers
after this coupon has elapsed?”
Will you honor the coupon,
will you give them the current deal,
or will you turn them away?

The internet has changed the world of coupons.
Your strategy should change also.

  1. For similar reasons, instead of calling it an expiration date, Chick-fil-A coupons say “Please use by (DATE).”
