Review Your 2024 Goals

There’s still time
to achieve
or, at the very least,
make a good start on,
some of your 2024 goals.

The first step
is to review them.

Are they still relevant?
Do you still WANT
to achieve them?

Then pick one
and take a step
toward achieving that goal.

Pick a font color
for the new product
you plan to launch.

Interview someone
in the industry
you plan to launch
your new business
in.

Watch the
#1 TV Show
the target market
you plan to sell to
watches.

Take a step
toward your 2024 goals.

Review Your 2024 Goals

2024 is more than
50% over.

You had goals for this year.

Review them.

Are they still applicable?
Do you still want
to achieve them?

If the answer is yes,
take one small step
toward achieving one
today.

If you plan to start
a business,
perhaps decide
on a logo color
or an industry
you wish to play in
or the type of customer
you wish to attract.

If your goal is
to launch a new product,
select a font
for the packaging
or craft a list
of possibly raw material
suppliers
or devise three possible
taglines for the new product.

Take a small step
toward achieving
your 2024 goals.

Focus On YOUR Business

A writing buddy was complaining
yet again
about how another writer does no marketing
(that she knows about)
and still has great sales.

This writing buddy
would likely have better sales
and more happiness
if she focused on her own sales,
her own books,
her own business.

Sure, we can
briefly look
at competitors
for inspiration
but
we should spend
the majority of our time
working on our own businesses.

We have limited time
on this wonderful planet.

Spend as much of it as possible
working to make
our own dreams
a reality.

Stop worrying about
everyone else.

Gaze Forward

A loved one
often
replays the bad decisions
in his life.
He dwells on them.

And that is causing him
to make more bad decisions.

While he’s thinking constantly
about the past,
he’s missing opportunities
in the present.

If we drive forward
while
gazing constantly
behind us,
we’ll crash.
We should glance behind us
once or twice
briefly
and then concentrate
on the road before us.

Study the past.
Learn from it.
Then take those lessons
and focus on the present
and
the future.

Take Action On Your 2024 Goals

It is 9 days
into 2024.

If you haven’t yet
taken action
on at least one of your goals,
do that today.

If it is a smaller goal,
consider
completing it.

If it is a larger goal,
take the first step.

You set these goals
because they are important
to you.

Even if they are fun goals,
they are fun goals
you want to reach.

Take action on at least
one of those goals
today.

The Best Time To Start A Business

The best time
to start a business
is now.

This was true
and it is especially true
today.

Why is it especially true today?

Because climate change
and other issues
are making
doing…well…anything
tougher and tougher.

Resources will become
more and more limited.

We need resources
to start businesses.

And because we know
today we’re well enough,
strong enough,
passionate enough.
alive enough
to start a business.

That might not be true
tomorrow.

If starting a business
is a dream of yours,
start working on that dream
today.

It IS Possible

One of my writing buddies
told me
her biggest wish in life
was to write full time
and be able to pay her bills.

Many people have told her
that isn’t possible,
not in ‘today’s market’.
Whatever the f*ck
THAT means.
(eye roll)

I know it is possible
because I know hundreds of people
who are writing full time
and more than paying their bills.

I brainstormed with her
and came up with over 100 ideas
how to make that dream
a reality.

That wild dream you hold
close to your heart?
The goal that some people
don’t believe is at all possible?

It is a reality for someone else.
And it could be a reality for you.

Get inventive.
Brainstorm.
Figure out how to make your dream happen.

The Trap Of Wanting More

One of the reasons
I like to write down my goals
is because
I have a tendency to move them.

If my goal is to sell 5 books a day
and I do that,
I immediately increase my goal
to sell 10 books a day.

This SEEMS like a good thing to do
except…

1) I never stop to celebrate
the achievement of my original goal.
And because I don’t celebrate it,
I often forget I’ve achieved it.
I feel like I never accomplish anything.

And

2) I don’t stop and ask myself
if I WANT to sell more than
5 books a day.
Does selling 10 books a day
get me closer
to my greater goals?

More merely for the sake
of more
isn’t productive.
It might be anti-productive.

Our time and other resources
are limited.
They could be used elsewhere.

Seth Godin
shares
“the infinity of more
can become
a gaping hole.

Instead of finding solace
and a foundation for better work,
the bottomless pit of
just a little more
quickly ceases to be fuel
and becomes a burden instead.”

Write down your goals.
Then don’t automatically expand
them
once you’ve achieved them.
Think about it
first.
