Lives Come First

Yesterday, it was announced
that my section of the universe
is going into lockdown.
Our infection numbers
are way too high.
Hospitals are overwhelmed.
More people will die
if we don’t take action.

Understandably,
store and restaurant owners
are upset about this action.
The holiday season
often makes or breaks
retailers
and their bricks and mortar stores
will be closed during it.

In situations like this,
when interviewed
by media,
RESIST the urge
to lead with
that frustration and anger.

Doing that will erode
sympathy
for your situation.

Express your concern
about the health and lives
of your customers and others
FIRST.

We tend to care more
about people
who care about us.

THEN talk about the challenges
facing you and your business.

Express sympathy for others
before requesting
sympathy for your business.

The lives of your customers
ALWAYS come first.
