I see this all the time
on social media.
A writer will complain
about how her sales suck.
She might threaten
to stop writing in a series
if her sales don’t improve.
Sales usually DON’T improve.
They usually worsen.
Why?
Because very few people,
including readers
and customers,
want to be associated
with a loser.
That’s harsh
and yes, it is not
politically correct.
But this is client k
and we don’t do
political correctness here
just for the sake of
political correctness.
I speak my truth.
And my truth is…
failure is a turnoff
for customers.
“Under new management
That’s a pretty silly thing
to write on the store window.
It says to loyal customers,
“watch out,
someone new is in charge.”
And it says to strangers
and the apathetic,
“this place failed.””
Privately asking for help
from allies, entities,
mentors, influentials,
other professionals
is often
an AWESOME thing to do.
Complaining to customers
and prospects,
however,
about how your business
is failing
is often a dumb a$$ move.
Maintain the illusion
of success
while you work
to save your business.
