I helped a new writer
in a writer group this weekend,
spending hours of my time
to walk him through a process.
Another male writer
sent me a vile message
saying, as a romance writer,
I didn’t know what I was doing
and I wasn’t qualified
to help ‘real’ writers.
His rant wasn’t about
me being a romance writer.
It was about me
being female
and daring to speak
from a place of authority.
On Sunday,
two talented women
performed in costumes
that concealed more
than most women reveal at the beach.
And they were heavily criticized for it.
How dare women
dance with confidence,
displaying
their 43 and 50 year old bodies
while singing in languages other than English?
(clutches my pearls)
It doesn’t matter what you do.
You WILL be criticized.
So do whatever the h@ll you want.
Change the world
the way YOU want to change it.
