Inspiration From Diversity

When I was working in
product development
for Fortune 500 companies,
the best sources of inspiration
for new products
came from outside our niches.

One of our most successful
children-targeted juice campaigns,
for example,
was inspired by
another company’s very successful
children-targeted breakfast cereal campaign.

One of our most successful
young adult-targeted juice campaigns
was inspired by
a young adult-targeted athletic shoe campaign
in another country.

Today, as a writer,
I watch the trends and innovations
in other book niches,
in TV, in movies,
in other entertainment,
all over the world,
and I often use those
for inspiration
for my Romance Novel campaigns.

Expanding our horizons
isn’t merely good
for us,
as individuals.
It is good
for our businesses.

As Seth Godin
shares

“We’re more likely
to learn from diversity
than we are from homogeneity.”

It is a big world
filled with millions
of fascinating ideas.

Explore it
(virtually if it isn’t safe
to travel).
Benefit from it.
Bring the ideas
that inspire you
‘home’ to your business.
