People who don’t read Romance Novels
usually believe
the heroes are perfect.
They’re super handsome,
do and say
everything correctly.
F*ck no.
If I wrote a hero
like that,
I’d receive 1 star reviews.
Romance heroes
are flawed.
Often they’re flawed
physically.
They have scars,
missing limbs,
have a challenge
they are usually hiding
from other.
They are always
inwardly flawed.
They have fears
and make mistakes
and have other challenges.
Perfect heroes aren’t ‘real.’
Because no one is perfect.
And no one wants to hear about
a perfect person
…in fiction
OR
in real life.
“Perfect is the enemy of good.
Of course it is.
But that simple sentence
becomes more urgent
when we realize that
nothing (and no one) is perfect.
How could it be?
And so, if your hero,
your cause, your holiday,
your background, your relationship
… if it’s not perfect,
does that mean you should hide it?
Be ashamed of it?
Be afraid of it?”
The answer, of course,
is ‘no.’
And this applies doubly
if YOU are the person
who isn’t perfect.
You don’t have to be
and you SHOULDN’T be
a perfect
leader,
business builder,
Mom,
person.
Perfect isn’t achievable
and it isn’t likable.
Be your awesome
imperfect self.
