Recently, a writer complained to me
that she had 250 entrants
for her Amazon Giveaway
and Amazon gave away
none of her books.
I told her
that was great.
She was advertising for free.
She pointed out
she hadn’t given away a book.
I replied that
giving away books wasn’t the goal
of her giveaway.
The goal was to drive awareness
of her books.
All 250 entrants are now aware
of her books.
She achieved her goal.
The goal of a contest or giveaway
isn’t to give away sh*t.
It is to increase awareness
of your brand, your company,
your products or services.
If you hold a contest
and no one legitimately wins,
who cares?
(Especially if it is held
by a third party.)
You’ve still achieved your goal.
