I’ve often been
the unlikely choice.
I usually have to fight
for the positions
I truly want
and
there are always people
who disagree
when I land a role.
I’m female.
I think like a business builder,
which is d*mn rare
in this wonderful world.
I usually have my own agenda,
my own way
of viewing the world,
and I’m not cowed
by other people.
I’m not the usual choice
and that is often
what makes me fail
but also what helps me
to succeed.
“Yeah, I’m the unlikely cable news host.
But before that
I was the unlikely Rhodes scholar.
And before that
I was the unlikely kid
who got into Stanford.
And then
I was the unlikely lifeguard.
You can always
cast yourself as unlikely
when you’re fundamentally alienated
in your worldview.
It’s a healthy approach
for a commentator.”
The unlikely choice
is quite often
the best choice.
Embrace your differences.
Don’t let them stop you
from achieving
what you want
to achieve.
