I have a theory.
The more likely
a book (product) is to succeed,
to gain readers,
to change the book world,
the more likely
it is to attract early critics,
to garner 1 star reviews
as soon as it is available.
Why?
Some writers will be jealous
and hating.
Many people don’t like change.
About half of the world
are scarcity folks
and they believe a new anything
will replace the old,
not merely be added to the selection.
Whatever the reason is,
critics, I believe,
are a sign a book (product)
will be successful.
“Every year,
the Baseball Writers of America
vote for induction
into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Eleven of them voted NO
when Babe Ruth came up
for the first time.
If Babe Ruth gets eleven ‘no’ votes,
why are we so worried
about the noisy critic
in the corner?”
You WILL have critics.
Don’t allow them
to stop you.
