And no, I’m not suggesting
you learn how to write
in order to sell books.
That route to success is challenging.
The market is extremely crowded
at the moment.
I don’t suggest anyone
become a writer
unless they absolutely love it.
Learning how to write well
benefited me
long before I decided
to become a writer.
It was a skill
I could learn
while I was dirt poor.
All it required was
a library card,
a pen,
and some paper.
And very few people
learn how to write well.
Having that skill differentiated me.
Writing well was
how I landed jobs
(a well crafted cover letter
and resume made quite a difference).
Writing well was
how I secured scholarships
for school.
Writing well was
how I sold products,
how I influenced important people,
how I convinced mentors
to take me under their wings.
“If you’re an actor,
being able to write means
that you can cast yourself.
If you’re a marketer,
being able to write means
you can tell your story.
If you’re looking for a job,
being able to write
makes you part of a special minority.”
Take some time
and learn how to write well.
It will make a difference
in your life.
