As business builders,
we are responsible for ourselves.
No one is keeping us
on a schedule.
The temptation is
to push hard tasks off,
to get sucked into
the vortex of product development tweaks,
to become distracted
with busy work.
This is why I set deadlines.
I tell my editor
I will send her the next manuscript
(product)
by a certain date.
She’s fully booked with clients.
If I miss my deadlines,
I’m in deep sh*t.
This past manuscript
was extremely challenging.
It took hard work
and long hours
to craft it to my satisfaction.
If I had a choice,
I would have avoided that work.
But I hadn’t given myself a choice.
I had a deadline to meet
and I got the manuscript written.
“Deadlines work.
They work because
they focus the mind
and create urgency.
They work to get us
to file our taxes
or finish an assignment.
They’re an external lever
for the work we have to do.”
Set deadlines
to ensure you complete tasks.
