One Way To Kill Product Usage

A writing organization
I belong to
has a professional forum.

This forum is a
big pain in the a$$
for everyone managing it.
Folks complain
about every little thing.
Drama happens.

So the leadership
at the writing organization
decided to split the forum
into dozens of smaller forums.
Each forum
requires a separate sign up.
The topics on each forum
are very specific
and people are shamed
if they post in the wrong forum.

So people have stopped posting.

The leadership
has made the process
so complex;
no one is bothering to use it.

I suspect this was intentional.
They can now say
no one wants the forums
and delete them.

Sometimes we WANT
to decrease or stop
usage of a certain product.

Making it extremely complex
and then punishing users
for improper usage
is one way
to do this.
