The Only Numbers That Matter

One of my writing buddies
is a wiz
at Pinterest.
She has a gazillion followers.
Her pins are awesome.
She spends a lot of time
on the site.

But she sells very few books
through it.

And that’s her goal
– to sell books.
She doesn’t want
to be a Pinterest star.
She wants
to be a full time writer.

It is fairly easy
to increase our newsletter subscribers.
Host a contest
with a huge prize
for people who sign up.

But those people won’t
necessarily buy our products.
They are most likely
to sign up,
receive a few newsletters
and then report the newsletter
as spam,
decreasing the likelihood
INTERESTED subscribers
will receive our newsletters.

The number of
subscribers, followers, likes, etc.
don’t matter
if being a social media pro
isn’t our goal.

Concentrate on the numbers
(sales, the number of people helped,
the number of samples, etc)
that truly matter.
