Being Tolerant Is An Asset

Yesterday,
we talked about
building a team
who will support you
or at the very least
not hold who you are
against you.

How does one
get chosen for such a team?

A very high profile position
opened on a female executive’s team
in the Fortune 500 company
a loved one was working at.

The loved one hadn’t been
with the company
for very long
yet he was chosen.

Why?

Because this company
had a track record
of male (and sometimes female)
employees being against
female management.

My loved one
has no problem
with female managers,
doesn’t see the sex or gender
of a manager
as making much of a difference.
He works well with women.

When the female executive
was considering people to promote,
she asked high profile women
within the company
who THEY would recommend,
who THEY worked well with.

Many of them mentioned
my loved one.

He had the qualifications
to complete the tasks.
Many people had those.

But he had an asset they didn’t
-tolerance.

It might be trendy
right now to be
intolerant
but many of the openings
being created
have diverse leaders.

If you want those
high profile positions,
learn how to become
more tolerant.

Everyone is watching.
