Taking A Break From Creative Tasks

I can only write
about 2,500 fresh words
a day
(complete product development)
on my Romance Novels
(products).
That task is too brain draining
for me to do more
in a day.

And sometimes,
between emotion-draining scenes,
I have to take breaks.

This is usually
when I’ll post on Facebook
(promote my product),
engaging with readers
(customers and prospects).

These posts
are marketing efforts.
They build my business.

Aimless scrolling
through my Facebook timeline,
however,
isn’t constructive.
I strive to limit that.

Seth Godin
shares

“When you’re doing
scary creative work,
or work that requires
emotional labor,
it’s natural
to want to walk away a bit.
To distract yourself.
To go shave a yak,
mindlessly eat
or bother someone in the next cube.

This is the main activity online,
actually.
People avoiding the real work.

One useful practice
is to have forced choices
that break up the work
but that are also productive.”

List tasks
you can do
when your brain needs a break.
Complete those tasks
instead of aimless internet surfing.
