A YA writer recently pulled her book
from publication.
This book had buzz,
was highly anticipated,
so it, of course,
attracted trolls
and negativity.
As an experienced writer,
I could have predicted that
would happen.
I would have prepared for it.
I would have accepted
that the negativity
was part of
having a book with buzz.
It came with success.
She, however, was a brand new writer.
She seemed to have been
caught unaware.
She emotionally couldn’t handle it.
She didn’t know what to do.
So she ‘quit.’
THIS is why we ALL need mentors.
I’m a 3 or 4 time USA Today Bestselling writer
and I still have mentors in my industry.
We need someone who has been there.
We need someone who can
put emotional distance
between us and the situation,
who can think rationally
while sh*t is happening to us.
We all need mentors.
If you don’t have at least one,
find one.
It WILL increase
your likelihood of success
and definitely decrease
your likelihood of quitting.
