A newer writer asked for advice.
I gave her my opinion,
backing it up
with the numbers around
my personal experience
with the situation.
Another ‘writer’ told me
I was wrong.
He didn’t supply any numbers,
didn’t have any personal experience
with the situation.
What he DID have
was a loud voice
and the insistence he was right.
He ‘yelled’.
He called me stupid.
He made a huge fuss.
I didn’t respond.
Why?
Because I had said my piece.
I didn’t have to prove to him
that I was right.
The loud writer
took my silence
for an admission I was wrong.
He declared himself the ‘winner’
(and yes, he actually used that word).
I rolled my eyes
and went back
to building my own business.
My guideline is…
He who screams loudest
is usually in the wrong.
Loudness is all he has
to ‘win’ his argument.
It is the tactic of last resort.
Listen hard
to your quiet advisers.
They don’t need to yell
to get their point across.
They have logic and experience
and often success
to support their advice.
