If You’re At Rock Bottom

Years ago,
I was having issues
with ALL of my publishers.
Some weren’t paying me.
The publishers who were paying me
weren’t supporting my books.
That pay was very low.

So I said
“F*ck it.
If I’m going to write
for no pay,
I’m going to write
the books
I want to write.”

And I did.
And my agent
refused to pitch that book
to publishers,
saying they wouldn’t be interested.

I loved the book
so I self-published it.
I had very little left to risk.

And that book
was my breakout hit.

I wouldn’t have written it
if I hadn’t hit
rock bottom.
I wouldn’t have self-published it
if I hadn’t hit rock bottom.

“I was set free,
because my greatest fear
had been realized,
and I was still alive,
and I still had a daughter
whom I adored,
and I had an old typewriter,
and a big idea.
And so rock bottom
became a solid foundation
on which I rebuilt my life.”

Rock bottom can be
the best place to
start your business.
