In the Romance Novel Business,
publishers used to be
the gatekeepers.
They decided which books
would be published.
They artificially created
scarcity.
Today, the big Indie Writers
are the gatekeepers.
They have the funds
to pay large amounts
for keywords and advertising,
blocking the newer
or smaller writers
from participating.
The big barrier to entry
in the past
for writers
was having the right connections.
The big barrier to entry
now
is money.
I foresaw this switch happening.
I saved my pennies.
I rushed to build my readership.
I factored this into my plan.
There will ALWAYS
be gatekeepers
and there will ALWAYS
be barriers to entry
in every industry.
Know what they currently are
and know what they will be
in the future.
Plan for this.
