There is a group
of writers
who chase under serviced niches.
The leader of this group
crunches the numbers,
finding niches
with more readers (demand)
than the existing writers
can satisfy.
The group swoops in,
writes a gazillion ‘good enough’ books
in that niche,
and then leaves
when the sales decrease
(and the sales ALWAYS decrease).
This year,
one of the niches
they’re targeting
is the one I service.
I’m not worried
about these writers.
I know they will eventually leave.
They’re looking to skim sales
off the top,
not build a permanent readership.
The legitimate threats
to my business
will be the disrupters,
the writers who want to change
the game,
not the writers looking
to grab a quick profit.
If you build a successful business,
folks seeking a fast buck
WILL enter your industry.
These usually aren’t the entities
you should worry about.
Keep your eyes on
the REAL threats
to your business.
