The Good Enough Strategy

In Publishing,
there are currently
two very different strategies.

There’s the wide
or available at all booksellers strategy.
This is the classic
write the best book
you can
and build a readership
that way
strategy.

There’s also the KU
or Kindle Unlimited Strategy.
The average KU reader isn’t choosy.
She is all about volume
of books available.

The strategy for KU writers,
at the moment,
is writing ‘good enough’ stories.
Don’t polish them too much.
Don’t make them too great.
Reach that minimal level
of acceptability
and produce books quickly.

That’s focused mediocrity.

Seth Godin
explains

“It’s intentional.
It’s the act of
chasing the banal,
so that the largest
possible number
of people
will be satisfied enough
not to complain.”

It isn’t a bad strategy
but it IS a different strategy
and it should be intentional.
