We see this
in the Romance Novel Business
all the time.
A new writer does a great job
at marketing
and has VERY strong sales
for their first novel.
The sales for their second novel,
however,
aren’t as strong.
Why?
Because almost everyone
will try a writer once.
They will usually start
with that first book.
Some of those readers
will love that first book
and buy the second book.
Some of those readers
won’t.
They will read someone else’s books.
That doesn’t mean the book sucks.
It merely means the book
wasn’t for them.
This is why
the second book’s sales
will never be as high
as that first book’s sales.
This new business bump
happens for restaurants,
retail stores,
almost every type of business.
Everyone will try you once.
Only the right customers
for your business
will try you a second time.
Expect sales to decrease
after that first release
or month or holiday season.
