While growing up dirt poor,
I was limited by
what I thought was possible.
For example,
no one in my family owned their homes
so I thought that wasn’t possible
for people like me.
I didn’t investigate
how I could afford to own a home.
Why would I waste my time?
It wasn’t possible.
Then I was paired with a mentor
who mentioned in passing
I’d eventually want to own a home.
Suddenly, that goal
went from impossible
to possible.
That was a HUGE step,
a powerful step.
Raye Montague,
the first person
to design a ship
using the computer,
shared
“My mother told me
when I was a very little girl,
‘Raye, you’ll have
three strikes against you.
You’re female
and you’re black
and you’ll have a
southern segregated school education.
But you can be
or do anything you want,
provided you’re educated.'”
The first step
to achieving a goal
is realizing
that goal is possible.
It IS possible.
