Fitting In Or Standing Out

For the first few years
of my romance novel business,
I tried to ‘fit in’
with the romance novel industry.
I wrote safe stories,
stories that fit perfectly
into categories.

Some writers
find great success doing this.

I didn’t
because writing
these types of stories
was a struggle for me.
My stories are quirky.
They’re different.
They stand out.
They don’t fit in.

It took me longer
to find a readership
but
when I found it,
wow,
they were passionate.

“Your work can struggle
to fit in.
Or you can do
the hard work
of having it stand out.”

Standing out
isn’t an easy route
but it can be rewarding.
