I no longer write stories
I can’t easily market to readers.
I’m running a business.
I have to craft products
that, at least,
have a chance of being profitable.
Before I write chapter one,
I figure out
how I’ll sell the premise
to readers.
That changes how I write
that first line,
that first paragraph,
that first chapter.
“Innovation for the sake of innovation
is cool,
but it’s not necessarily marketable.
Products that are sticky—
the ones people buy
and use over and over again—
are often ones
that make a difference
in customers’ lives.
Effective marketing helps
makes the connection
between a problem and its solution
(read: your product)
clear for potential customers.”
Think about marketing
during the product design stage.
