Productivity Vs Getting Things Done

Buddies often tell me
“I was very productive today.
I got many things done.”

Being productive
isn’t the same
as getting things done.

As Seth Godin
shares

“Productivity is the amount
of useful output created
for every hour of work we do.

You can measure that output
in money if you want to
(it makes the math easier)
but in fact,
it’s everything from
lives changed to knowledge shared.
What matters is the answer
to a simple question:
did I spend my day
producing enough benefit
for all the time invested?”

I measure productivity
as how much closer
I move
to my goals.

Yesterday,
I sent about 100 emails.
I ‘got those done.’
But only about 10 of those emails
moved me
closer to accomplishing my goals.

I was very busy.
I wasn’t very productive.

Busy work
doesn’t push you
closer to your goals.
Eliminate as much of that
as you can.
