A writer posted
he was taking some time off
a writer’s group.
He wasn’t a moderator,
wasn’t the owner of the group.
He was merely someone
who posted often.
Perhaps TOO often.
The need to notify
an online place
of our absence
is a sign we spend
a LOT of time there.
That could be a great thing
if it benefits us.
Maybe that’s our ‘family’ online
or we receive a lot of encouragement
or knowledge or help there.
Or it could also be a signal
we’re spending time
we could better allocate elsewhere
there.
We’ve been building
someone else’s ‘dream’
and not our own.
This writer had over nine thousand posts
and hadn’t yet finished
the novel he was working on.
If you feel the need
to announce a break from an online place,
evaluate how much time
you spend there
and whether or not
it is bringing you joy.
