Changing Beliefs

There is a small yet vocal
portion
of the population
who believe
Romance Novels are trash.

They often haven’t read one
or
they might have read
just one,
a book they picked up
at random
out of a trash pile,
often a book
no one else wanted
…for a reason.

Some Romance Writers
think they can change
these haters’ minds.
They spend decades
and countless resources
attempting to do this.

I don’t even try.

Why?

Because hating
Romance Novels
is part of their identities.
It is a belief
they will cling to
and fight against changing.

As

“While more knowledge
can change belief,
it usually doesn’t.
Belief is a cultural phenomenon,
created in conjunction
with the people around us.”

I, instead,
focus on the billion people
or more
who believe Romance Novels
have value.

Changing beliefs
is d*mn difficult.
Don’t pin your business’ success
on doing that.
