Narrow Your Focus

One of my pen names
focuses on a small niche
in a niche in Romance Novels.

It is the equivalent
of the bear shifter niche
in the Paranormal subgenre
of Romance.

It sounds really small,
doesn’t it?

And compared to
the entire Romance Category,
it IS really small.

But writers are making
millions of dollars
a year
in that really small niche.

And they don’t have
to spend anything at all
in advertising
because the target market
gathers in
only a few places.

They are an active part
of those groups
(for FREE).
Every reader
in those groups
knows about their books.

“We can allocate
our resources
into a portfolio.
Even if we don’t know precisely
where to put the effort,
a focus on the right categories pays off.

Too often,
we aim too wide
(it feels more deniable).
And sometimes, more rarely,
we aim too narrowly.”

If you’re aiming wide,
narrow your focus.

Once you’ve conquered
that smaller niche,
you can expand your aim.
