Building Your Business Around Another Company

A promotion company
sent me an email,
pitching how
they would help me build
my newsletter subscriber list
so I could ‘own’
those subscribers.

The sign up
for this promotion
was via Facebook only.

I, of course,
didn’t work with
that promotion company.

They looked like scammers
for promoting a service
they clearly didn’t believe in
but I had more concerns
than that.

Building our businesses
around other businesses
is extremely dangerous.
Especially if that other business
doesn’t care
if our business lives or dies.

Facebook could shut down
the promotion company’s account
tomorrow
and Facebook wouldn’t be impacted.

It also sends a signal.

A promotion company
without a sign up form
on their website
isn’t building a business
for the long term.
They are more likely
looking for a fast sale.

I’m not trusting
such a company
with a brand
I’ve been building
for over a decade.

Think carefully
before building your business
around another company.
