For decades,
big oil and gas companies
have been telling the story
that there is no climate change.
The Arctic will be fine.
And they convinced
many politicians
and other people
their story was true.
They didn’t convince
the planet, however.
Climate change happened
and continues to happen.
The Arctic is so thawed;
the oil and gas companies
are finding it difficult
to drill there.
They’re proposing
the implementation
of giant chillers
to refreeze the ground.
“Outside forces
don’t care about
the situation,
because
they have no awareness
or memory.
They simply are.
Newton’s law
doesn’t care that
you were really distracted
and that’s why
you weren’t wearing a seatbelt,
and the virus
that infected your friend
doesn’t care about
why that person
in the office
decided not to wear a mask,
either.
People are
very good
at stories.
That’s our core technology.
Everything else in the world,
though,
has no interest in them.”
We can’t explain away reality.
Twisting data,
suppressing tests,
telling lies
doesn’t change it,
doesn’t make it go away.
Tell others
whatever stories
you think are ethical.
But build your business
upon reality.
