Watching The News

Watching the news
makes me unhappy.
(Listening to a certain
leader of a country
makes me dumb.)

It is challenging
to be creative
when I’m unhappy.

And I can’t do much
about the unhappy things
I see
on the news.

So I rarely watch it
anymore.
I get enough of a sense
of the news
from my social media feed.
I dig into stories
if they interest me
or if I feel I can
DO something about it.

The rest of the time,
I focus on my own goals,
goals I can more easily achieve
because
I limit watching the news.

Seth Godin
shares

“…the world doesn’t get better
when you spend more time
engaging with mass media.
That’s pretty clear.

But it does get better
when you spend more time
doing things that matter.
Actions matter.”

If watching the news
messes with your creativity
or otherwise
stops you from achieving
your goals,
consider limiting
your exposure
to the news.
