Every sentence
in my 200 page stories
does something.
There is no fluff
…unless that fluff,
that rest in the story
is essential,
unless it is needed
for the reader
to catch her breath.
And every sentence contributes.
One wrong sentence,
h@ll, one wrong word
can destroy a scene, a character,
a story.
Writing copy
is as or more intense.
One wrong sentence,
one wrong word
can turn away a prospect.
“Every sentence has a purpose.
It doesn’t exist to take up space,
it exists to change the reader,
to move her from here to there.
This sentence,
then,
what’s it for?
If it doesn’t move us
closer to where we seek to go,
delete it.”
Every sentence in your copy
should do something,
mean something,
be intentional.
Review it multiple times
and then ask
a fresh pair of eyes
and
a rested brain
to review it again.
