When I first started posting
on Facebook,
it was all about the likes.
The more likes
a page had,
the better
it was perceived to be.
People were buying likes.
I merely didn’t monitor
my likes.
Years later,
I had thousands of likes
but they were useless
because most of those likes
were by scammers,
folks interested in
hiding their true intentions,
not buying my books.
When an ‘influencer’
approaches me
to promote my books
on her social media,
I keep that in mind.
Instead of paying
for each like,
I offer to pay
a much higher rate
for each sale.
No one has ever
taken me up
on that offer.
H@ll, no one has ever
even counter-offered.
They’re not interested
because they doubt
their campaign
will drive sales.
“…the things you need to do
to be popular
(the only metric
the platforms share)
aren’t the things you’d be doing
if you were trying
to be effective,
or grounded,
or proud of the work
you’re doing.”
The number of likes
mean nothing.
The quality of likes,
however,
CAN make a difference.
