It is human nature
to focus on the negative.
Our new product
receives 20 rave reviews
and 1 bad review.
We dwell on
that 1 bad review
…for days.
That’s normal.
That’s expected.
But it can f*ck with
your creativity
and with your happiness level.
So build in systems
to deal with it.
Instead of looking
at top level review ratings,
for example,
list the good feedback
and the negative feedback
side by side.
The good feedback list
should be much, much longer.
The bad feedback list
might communicate
that one reviewer wasn’t
your target customer.
“If you’re focusing on
the part of your day
that was “fine”,
then you’re ignoring the parts
that were a miracle,
or disappointing,
or thrilling.
We get
what we pay attention to.
Our narration determines
what we experience
and what we remember.
If your narration isn’t helping you,
perhaps it pays
to focus on something else.”
What are you focusing on?
Does that focus
serve your goals?
