When I was a kid,
I was often called bossy.
I would organize
the other kids.
I would start projects,
micro-businesses.
I would put systems
in place
and expect other people,
including adults,
to respect them.
If I had been a boy,
I would have been
called a future leader.
But I was a girl
and people called me
‘bossy’
like that was a bad thing.
It wasn’t.
Bossy little girls,
if given a chance,
become
awesome adult leaders.
They change
the freakin’ world.
Issa Rae,
actress
and serial entrepreneur,
shares
“Even from a young age,
my mom used to call me
bossy.
Only now do I realize that
I wanted to be that.
I wanted to be a boss
because,
why the f*ck not?
I liked feeling like
I was working
or in business.
I liked feeling like
a leader.
And it is not always fun,
by any means,
but there’s an element
of accomplishment
that I feel in executing projects.”
If you’re raising
a bossy little girl
or if you WERE
a bossy little girl,
celebrate that.
Embrace it.
Use your bossy powers
to get sh*t done.
Change the world
with that gift.
