When I was a child,
my Awesome Mom
wouldn’t attempt
to entertain me
when I was ‘bored.’
She’d shake her head
and tell me,
in an extremely disappointed tone,
“Only boring people
are bored.”
If we’re creative,
if we’re interested
in a variety of things,
if we have initiative,
we can always find something
to do,
to entertain us.
We don’t have to wait
for someone else
to supply excitement.
We are the
CREATORS
of that excitement.
“As soon as
you’re tired of
being bored
at work,
at home,
on lockdown,
wherever,
you’ll go find a challenge.
You don’t have to
quit your day job
to be challenged,
but you do
have to be willing
to leap,
to take some responsibility,
to find something
that might not work.
Being challenged
at work
is a privilege.
It means that
you have a chance,
on someone else’s nickel,
to grow.
It means you can choose
to matter.
I’m glad you’re feeling bored,
and now we’re excited
to see
what you’re going
to go do about it.”
If you’re bored,
that is a YOU problem.
It has very little
to do
with the situation.
Create your own
d@mn
excitement.
