There have been rumblings
about reopening areas
to business.
Some business builders
I talk with
believe their area might open
much too soon.
They’re concerned
about placing
their employees
in peril.
Then they shouldn’t reopen
their physical businesses
on that date
if that is at all possible.
These are OUR businesses.
WE ultimately decide
when they reopen.
There are factors,
of course,
to consider.
Maybe our businesses
or our employees
are receiving help
from other entities
(like the government)
during the shutdown
and that help will stop
once the area
is officially open
for business.
Maybe not being physically open
when the competition
is open
will impact
our market share
to the point of
threatening our businesses’ survival.
But maybe the online portion
of our business
is flourishing so well;
we would prefer to focus
on that
and not have some of our attention
and resources
zapped
by a physical location.
Maybe our employees’
and our customers’ health
is more important
than all other factors
and we think reopening early
will harm them.
Maybe so much has changed;
our physical businesses
should change too
and that will take a while
to set up.
WE are ultimately responsible
for our businesses.
Once it is legal to do so,
WE decide when they reopen
or IF they reopen.
We should
think about this now
before the peer pressure
to reopen
influences OUR decisions.
