While That System Is Shut Down…

A few days ago,
I advised
not to change systems
that are working
during this crisis.

People are under stress.
Don’t add more stress
by forcing them
to learn something new.

The key part of that advice
is ‘systems that are WORKING.’

If the system
isn’t being used
during the crisis,
we CAN reinvent it
if we believe that system
will remain relevant
after the crisis is over.

Bookstore patrons
are unlikely to remember
or care
that Romance Novels were shelved
on the right or the left of the store.

Bookstores are non-essential services
and many have been closed
for weeks.

They are unlikely to remember
whether or not
they HAD to supply an email
when purchasing a book.

Employees are unlikely to remember
whether or not
they required approval
to give a patron a certain discount.

If a part of your business
has been shut down
for weeks,
consider that to be
a rare opportunity
to refine it.

We can start again
without the stress
of starting from nothing.
