If you are going to
risk your life
by making me
a hamburger
at a quick service restaurant
or
by stocking shelves
so I can have toilet paper
to wipe my a$$
or
by going to a stranger’s house
so I can have
the latest print copy
of a book
and
likely do all of this
without masks or gloves
during a highly contagious
and extremely deadly
virus outbreak,
I’m going to turn my head
and f*ckin’ ignore the fact
that you aren’t practicing
social distancing
with people who are also
risking their lives
every d@mn day.
I know many of us
are sitting in our cozy relatively safe homes
and we don’t have a lot to do.
We have the time
to watch and criticize
what others are doing,
labeling entire generations
(wrongly – calling them millenials,
instead of gen zs)
as being
careless and stupid.
But THINK about
what we’re also asking them
to do.
They’re not dumb.
They know
when they walk into
McDonalds or Walmart
or pick up that Amazon package,
they’re risking their lives.
Yet they do it
because someone has to.
So yeah,
they deserve to have
some fun.
If someone is risking her life
for me,
for my comfort
and my safety,
I’d be a complete a$$hat
to judge that someone
for wanting to grab
a tiny slice of happiness
for herself.
I’d want her
to be safe,
of course,
and not take unnecessary risks
but I’d trust HER
to define what was deemed
necessary.
Heroes have earned
that right.
