Doing Our Part

I read stories
about
doctors and nurses
and other medical staff
risking their lives
for others,
about
brilliant entrepreneurs
using their 3D printers
to make much needed
medical devices,
about
auto makers
offering to switch
to ventilator production
and
I wonder if I’m doing enough
to help
during this crisis.

I’m writing romance novels,
selling romance novels,
giving some of them away
and
I’m posting silliness
on social media,
light fluffy stuff
with the goal
to make people smile.

That doesn’t seem
like much.

Yet people are spending
money
on my stories.
They are spending
time
reading them.
They ARE smiling,
finding some happiness
amidst the fear.

That means my stories,
my silly posts
have value
to someone.

I use my sales
to pay my cover artist
and my editor,
giving them a little bit
of financial security
during these stressful times.

I donate some of my sales
to the food bank
and other charities.

I spend much of the rest
on groceries,
utilities,
other expenses
for my household
and others.

My purchases and payments
give THOSE companies
more income.
It might make a difference
to them,
might allow them
to pay one more employee.

Could I do more?
Of course,
I could
and I strive to do that.

But I AM easing
the crisis
for someone
a itsy bitsy tiny bit.

I suspect you are also.
