I can write the best book
I can possibly write,
promote it heavily,
using all of my skill and knowledge,
and
it might not sell.
The story might not connect
with readers
for some unknown reason.
I’ve grown to accept that.
My sales are sometimes
disconnected from my efforts.
That doesn’t mean
I decrease those efforts.
I continue to try,
to give my books
the best chance
for success.
“When we detach
our emotional state
from the results of our effort,
we maximize the chances
that our effort
will be focused and effective.
We’re not trying to
control the outcome,
simply putting our best effort
into creating the conditions
that lead to the desired outcome.
The opportunity is:
to go all in, and
to be okay with
what happens after that.”
You can do your best
and not see the results
you desire.
That doesn’t mean
you should stop
doing your best.
