The odds of a reader (prospect)
‘discovering’ my stories (products)
on Amazon
is now d*mn low.
There are millions of competitors
and many of them
are willing to pay
big dollars
to ‘own’ the keywords
associated with my stories.
I still sell stories
on Amazon
but that is because
I bring readers to the bookseller,
not because
the bookseller brings readers to me.
Google now operates
the same way.
This impacts discoverability
and it will also impact
funding for new web-based businesses.

previously successful businesses
like
Groupon, Travelocity
and Hipmunk
suffer.
As a result,
new web companies
are significantly harder
to fund and build.
If you’re dependent on
being found in a Google search,
it’s probably worth
rethinking your plan.”
Unless you have very deep pockets,
you can no longer count
on being discovered
via Google or Amazon.
Craft a different way
to be found.
